“Massimo Pallottino” National Archaeological Museum and the Swabian Castle

The National Archaeological Museum of Melfi, housed within the picturesque Melfi Castle, preserves and showcases the significant archaeological finds from the Vulture-Melfi region, offering visitors a journey through the area’s major historical periods.

EU citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 (up to the day after their 25th birthday). The same benefits apply to citizens of non-EU countries, subject to reciprocity (Ministerial Decree No. 13 of January 9, 2019). To use the “Youth and Merit Culture Card” discount, you must enter your voucher code in the designated field during the purchase process. NOTE: You must present a document proving your eligibility for the discount at the entrance to the venue.

CLOSED on December 25, January 1, and May 1, except for special openings under the MiC project as per Ministerial Decree 330 of June 30, 2016 (Criteria for the opening to the public, supervision, and security of state museums and cultural sites).

Purchasing tickets and accessing the museum will be limited to a maximum of 25 paying visitors per guided group, excluding the tour guide. Guided groups may only enter with audio guides or whisper systems. The ticket is valid on the day of booking. Admission is free on the first Sunday of the month.

For the proper use of the facility: Food and beverages are not permitted. Only small dogs carried in their owner’s arms are allowed; guide dogs and dogs required for verified and documented medical reasons are always permitted. Mobile phones may only be used to take photos or videos. Smoking is not permitted, including the use of electronic cigarettes. Photographs may not be taken with professional equipment unless authorized by management.

“Mario Torelli” National Archeological Museum

The Museum is housed in the basement walkways of the Renaissance castle of Pirro del Balzo. In 2021, thirty years after its inauguration, its exhibition layout underwent a complete renovation. A rich multimedia educational system, which has expanded the historical narrative and made it accessible to a variety of audiences, has made it one of the most technologically advanced museums in Southern Italy.

The Venosa Archaeological Park preserves the monumental remains of ancient Venusia, founded in 291 B.C., offering a journey through more than a millennium of history, from the Republican era to the Middle Ages.

Il martedì dalle ore 9 alle ore 13.45 (ultimo ingresso ore 13.00).
La prima domenica del mese l’ingresso è gratuito

Lagopesole Castle

The imposing Lagopesole Castle, built on pre-existing Norman structures, represents one of the most significant examples of military and residential architecture in southern Italy. The current structure dates back to the Swabian era, with subsequent, more modest additions made under the Angevins.
